OUR VALUE PROPOSITION

Our focus is on:

Tech Disruption:

Allowing farmers to get instant payments and earn a competitive annual return with daily compounding interests within the Upya ecosystem. Our job is to make this happen between now and the end of this year (2024).

The money market fund component is what differentiates us since it unlocks the following:

  • Financial Inclusion: - allowing financial inclusion at scale from the grassroot level by targeting the critical mass of farmers in rural Kenya and the wider rural Africa. There is a lot of past and ongoing research around this, for instance:
    • Financial Inclusion for farmers: the untapped market - research done by AGRA
    • How financial inclusion reduces poverty and income inequality - research done by SAFIN
    • Improving financial inclusion through data for smallholder farmers in Kenya - research done by GSMA
  • Opening up ecosystem partnership discussions with Money Market Funds and Banks.

Target Audience:

Upya Africa primarily targets traditional farmers who make up 70% of our target market and non-traditional farmers accounting for 30%. Our services aim to cater to various categories including dairy farmers, horticultural farmers and cash crop farmers. Additionally, we aim to engage with agricultural SACCOs, agricultural research centres and farmer's markets. The age distribution of our target audience is predominantly older, with 75% being 35 years and above while 25% are between 20 and 35 years old.
